How often are your inspections held in North America? How many inspections are held in an inspection year? How are locations determined? What is the make-up of the inspection committee?
AHHA: Annually. 8 - 10 inspection sites. Location is determined by recommendation of the Breeding Committee and approval of the Board of Directors. The AHHA Breeding and Registration Committee will appoint the members of the official Inspection Team. Every effort will be made to select persons of the highest integrity and the greatest possible expertise to serve in this capacity. In whatever manner possible, the immense experience and expertise of the Holsteiner Verband will be sought and welcomed in composing and/or training the official Inspection Team. Membership on the AHHA Inspection Team will not necessarily be limited to AHHA members or to the breeders of Holsteiner horses. It will be the duty of the AHHA Breeding and Registration Committee to avoid any conflict of interest to whatever extent possible in the selection of the Inspection Team. |
AHS: Yearly. Approximately 30. Generally, by level of historical interest and the numbers of horses. The inspection committee consists of members of the AHS Mare and Stallion Committee, plus at many sites we have judges from the German Verband. We require two judges at every site (i.e., one judge alone cannot grade a mare into the AHS studbooks). |
ATA: 8 - 12 inspections per year, every year. Locations determined by number of horses pre-nominated in that area. 1 inspector = mares. 3 = Pilot Program Stallions. 3 ATA + 1 German for Trakehner stallions. |
BWP/NAD: |
ISR/OLD: Inspections held every year between July and October. Approximately 60 inspections are held at locations of volunteer hosts. For stallion inspection: committee of 3 members of the Stallion Commission (or two members and a qualified guest judge); for mares and foals: one or two judges with Breeding Judge license and ISR judge license. |
NASFA: Inspections are held annually in the fall, usually mid-September through mid-October. Inspection sites (and the numbers thereof) are determined by the locations of the participating horses (who must be signed-up in advance). The inspection committee generally is composed of one French National Stud official from France and one NASFA representative. |
NA/WPN: Once a year (in the fall). 12-15 inspections per year. Locations are determined by surveys mailed to all members. Jury consists of one full-time KWPN inspector from Holland and two or more jury members from the U.S. |
SWANA: Annual inspections. 10 - 12 inspection sites per year. Locations are determined by stallion reports and activity level. We attempt to rotate sites so we can be in most areas every other year. |
Must owner be "owner of record" on papers in order to participate in inspections or register foals?
AHHA: Yes. |
AHS: Yes. Or, they must provide a lease agreement in the case of a mare or a bill of sale from the breeder of the foal. |
ATA: Yes. |
BWP/NAD: |
ISR/OLD: Yes, or must provide proper documentation of transfer of ownership. |
NASFA: Yes, although this is difficult to control other than for horses with French papers. |
NA/WPN: Yes, owner must be the "owner of record" or lessee of record with the NA/WPN to attend a keuring or register a foal. |
SWANA: Yes. |
What are the requirements for transfer of ownership?
AHHA: $25 transfer fee and the appropriate information and signatures filled out on the back of the papers. |
AHS: The transfer must be signed by the seller (current AHS owner of record) and by the buyer (alternatively, a bill of sale is accepted). The original papers, the AHS Transfer of Ownership form and the appropriate fee must be sent to the AHS office. The papers are amended and returned. We do not require the original papers of non-Hanoverian mares (e.g., Jockey Club mares) to accomplish the transfer. |
ATA: $30. Submit original certificate to Central Office. Certificate must be signed by seller and buyer or copy of bill of sale is required. |
BWP/NAD: |
ISR/OLD: Completed Transfer of Ownership form, copy of the bill of sale and registration paper, service fee of $30. |
NASFA: Every French-registered horse should have, in its French passport, the Carte d'Immatriculation (ownership card). On the reverse side of this document is the Certificat de Vente (certificate of sale). This document is completed with the name and address of the new owner(s), signed by the seller and the buyer, and transmitted to NASFA along with $35 fee. The document then is sent to France where a new Carte is issued in the new owner's name. |
NA/WPN: New owner must be participating subscriber, must have signed bill of sale or transfer form from the previous owner (going back to the last owner of record). In the case of a newly imported horse, three pictures of the horse must accompany transfer. Fee is $30. |
SWANA: The following are required for transfer of ownership: (1) The original registration papers, Export Certificate, or passport (Identitetsbevis); (2) Bill of sale or other proof showing the transfer of ownership from the last owner recorded by SWANA; (3) A transfer fee of $25; (4) A completed Transfer of Ownership form. |
