What foal books are available in your registry? / Is it possible to move up from one book to another? If so, how?

AHHA: We do not hve a separate foal book. Foals are either Certificate of Registration or Certificate of Pedigree. / Certificate of Pedigree foals can be moved to Certificate of Registration upon the dam completing her requirements to be entered into the AHHA Studbooks. |

NASFA: The French registration system does not include "Foal Books." At birth, foals are registered as Selle Francais, Facteur Selle Francais, Cheval de Selle or French Anglo-Arab. / At maturity, with a performance record and after inspection, it is possible to move up from Cheval de Selle. |

NA/WPN: Foals may be registered in the Foalbook (VB), Register A, Register B or have a Certificate of Pedigree (CP). A CP foal is by one WPN parent and a non-sporthorse parent. May not be inspected or move up. A Reg B foal is out of a WPN foal by an un-approved stallion. May not be inspected or move up (unless the sire gets approved). Reg A foal is one out of a WPN mare and a WPN Licensed stallion or an Acknowledged Studbook Approved stallion. May be inspected for studbook if it completes the requirements lacking by the sire (vet work or performance). Or out of a TB mare by an approved WPN stallion. VB foal is one who has not yet been inspected for studbook. SWANA: North American SWB division of the SWB studbook. SWANA Appendix registry. / The fourth generation registered Appendix horse may be eligible for full SWB registration based on performance and conformation scores. For example, a mare out of a quarter horse mare by an approved SWB stallion can be registered in the SWB Appendix Registry. All of her descendants can be registered SWB Appendix, and this mare's great-great-granddaughter is eligible for full SWB registration. |
Is there an age limit for registration? If so, what is the latest date or oldest age a foal can be registered?

ISR/OLD: Not required for foals inspected at their mother's side if original breeding certificate is available and cross-check with breeding report is OK. For all others, including all frozen semen or embryo transfer foals, yearlings and older, foals from imported semen, etc., it is required. |

Are there special requirements for naming foals? If so, please explain. / Can names of horses be changed after issuance of papers?

AHHA: Yes. Males' names begin with the first letter of the sire's name; female names begin with the same letter in a given year. / Yes, but not after the horse has been entered into the AHHA Studbook. |

AHS: All foal names must begin with the first letter of the sire's name. Only exception is that certain foals from the W line have reverted to F names. / Only if the horse has not been entered in the Studbook and the appropriate fee paid. |

ISR/OLD: No, the name of the foal is not part of the document issued by the registry. The foal's name, if available, will be entered into the registry's database. It is common that foal names start with the same letter as the sire's name. / Yes, until the horse gets listed as an approved stallion or entered into one of the Mare Books. |

NASFA: Yes, foals are named alphabetically based on the year of birth. The letter for 2003 is "P", for 2004 it will be "Q", 2005 will be "R", etc. However, the initial letters "W", "X", "Y" and "Z" are not used in naming French-registered foals. / Once the registration documents are issued, names may not be changed. |

NA/WPN: The foal names of each year are to start with a specific letter (i.e.: 2002 = "V" names). / Horses may have their names changed ONE time, upon acceptance into the studbook. |

Can duplicate papers be issued if the original papers are lost? What, if any, is the fee / process?

AHHA: Yes. DNA typing and parent verification, $150 or $300 fee, completion of form detailing reason for request, color photos. |

AHS: Papers issued by the AHS can be re-issued if clear documentation is provided, i.e., a notarized statement from the current owner of record, that explains the circumstances of the loss, markings and pictures of the horses are required and in some cases, parent- verification will be required. |

ATA: Yes. $100, letter, photos, sometimes DNA tests, unbroken chain of ownership. |

BWP/NAD: |

ISR/OLD: Yes, special notarized document is required, fee is $100. |
|
NASFA: Yes. A "Declaration on Honor" form must be signed by the requesting party. If not the owner of record, a bill of sale must be provided indicating chain of ownership of horse. A licensed veterinarian must complete an identification form, which is compared to the identification completed at original registration. Fee is $250. |

NA/WPN: Yes. An affidavit of loss must be filled out by the last owner of record, photos must be submitted, blood typing or DNA must be done. The fee is $175. |

SWANA: If registration papers have been lost or destroyed, the owner may apply for duplicate registration papers. The following must be sent to SWANA: (1) The registered names of the horse, its sire, and its dam; (2) The registration number of the horse; (3) A signed letter explaining the reason for the loss of the original papers; (4) Bill of sale or other document establishing the current ownership of the horse; (5) A duplicate papers fee of $125; (6) DNA testing may be required. |
Is embryo transfer allowed? Are there any special requirements or restrictions?

AHHA: Yes. Foals resulting from embryo transfer must be DNA typed and parent verified. |

AHS: Yes. No restrictions. Registration requirements are the same as for other foals. |

ATA: Yes. DNA required. One foal per year, maximum 10 lifetime. |

NASFA: Yes. Submit copy of recipient mare's registration papers or, if she has no papers, an identification form must be completed for her. The breeding documents should indicate that embryo transfer was performed. |

NA/WPN: Yes. No restrictions. Forms must be filled in by the performing veterinarian; both mares, the stallion and the foal must be blood typed or DNA'd. |

SWANA: Yes. The mare can register as many foals as she would have naturally given birth to. Example: a 6-year-old mare who has not had any foals can have 3 embryo transfer. |
